Is anyone else finding all kinds of nasty comments on their blogs? I just had to delete about 14 comments posted by a rape website, and a playboy email address.
What's going on?
Help!
Posted by hackenstar at November 3, 2004 08:48 AMI've had the same problem, and have also been banning the IP addresses from which those comments have come, but I don't know what else to do about them, other than turn off comments (which I've considered).

Sorry 'bout the bad blog comments. They come from "blog spammers." Evil, evil people.
I try to stay on top of them all and keep them from posting using a program called MT Blacklist. Still, sometimes things get through.
you can help though by turning on comment notification for your blog. If you log in to yoru blog, go to manage weblog, then weblog config, then preferences. Scroll down and select "e-mail new comments".
What this will do is send you an e-mail with the text each time you have a new comment on your blog.
What it also does is allow you to "de-spam" your blog with a link at the bottom of each e-mail. Then when you've got a spam e-mail, click that link at the bottom, and then click the buttton to "despam your blog" and ad the URL to the blacklist.
Be careful you don't accidentally add any other URL's other than the spam url (like yahoo.com or hotmail.com) because that will block real people from posting.
This will not only help your blog, but the other blogs on covblogs too!
