Insomnia

What do you think about while you're not falling asleep at night? As in, trying to fall asleep, but not?

Anyone got any sure-fire cures for Insomnia? Not fun!!!

Have been reading Garrison Keillor's Wobegon Boy stories (might return it to MCkay's so it can be re-sold for 75 cents again), playing music to fall asleep to, and when it gets to the really wee hours of the morning, listening to the mice play in the plastic Walmart bags in my house.

And i will go ahead and agree with everything Bob said about writing. When I can't sleep , I must write. Perhaps this is the reason I have not been falling asleep until i write: there's so much hay to be spun to gold. Writing is Alchemy.

I put myself in another world and retell the stories to myself. Sometimes just a world where I live on my own instead of with my parents, where I write stories instead of papers and get paid to do it instead of paying for the priviledge.
Other times I'm actually on another world literally, visiting the moon, or Mars, or Vulcan, or the asteroid belt which by some process we don't understand actually has an atmosphere and can support life, though it's pretty much like Siberia. I'm captain of a starship, or queen of a race. Or me and a few friends save civilization as we know it, or else spend my life as a trickster among tricksters, but all with a strict code of ethics, inviolable.
But that's not the way to fall asleep. So when I have to fall asleep, I think about breathing in. slowly, filling my lungs as full as they can comfortably go. Then breathing out. Slowly, completely, until I think there's nothing left in there, then just a little more. Then breathe in again. Slowly. concentrate. No, don't think about homework, or classes. Don't worry about whether I'll find a job. Breathe. In, out, in out...
And before I know it, I'm out myself.
